Why "Mahout"?

We have a name for the distribution. Senthil was proposing names that gave a lively attribute of something belonging to the Indian sub-continent. We were searching for something that would fit our exact requirement here. The Elephant is unique to India and Africa. We don't get to see them elsewhere. Domesticated elephants are quite common in India. We decided to go with a theme that went close to this, and called our distribution "Mahout". Mahout is the one who controls the elephant. The word, originally derived from sanskrit - mahavat, means, one who controls the limitless (or most powerful). Ours would be a distribution that would domesticate linux by getting it to desktops with better desktop functionality. We thought that the name was indeed appropriate :)
